This Friday, Luton Town travel to Stamford Bridge to take on Chelsea in the Hatters second fixture of their first season in the Premier League.

Until this season, any clashes between the two teams had been limited to the domestic cup competitions.

As a result of one such clash, back in January 2021, I compiled a – they-played-for-both-luton-town-and-chelsea-starting-xi – article.

After much deliberation, I came up with the following starting XI plus substitute:

Goalkeeper – Alec Chamberlain

Defender – Jay Dasilva
Defender – Mal Donaghy
Defender – Paul Elliott
Defender – Cole Dasilva

Midfielder – Cameron McGeehan
Midfielder – Peter Nicholas
Midfielder – Izzy Brown

Striker – Roy Wegerle
Striker – Kerry Dixon
Striker – Mick Harford

Substitute – John O’Rourke

As usual, I asked the readership to nominate any players I may have missed who met the criteria, with the following names being forwarded:

• Mark Stein
• Micky Droy
• Joe Payne

and

• Paul Hughes.

Also, since then, although he has yet to make his Luton Town debut, the Hatters have signed Ross Barkley.

Ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge, I thought I’d revisit the starting XI plus substitute, and it now looks as thus:

Goalkeeper – Alec Chamberlain

Defender – Jay Dasilva
Defender – Mal Donaghy
Defender – Paul Elliott
Defender – Cole Dasilva

Midfielder – Cameron McGeehan
Midfielder – Peter Nicholas
Midfielder – Ross Barkley

Striker – Roy Wegerle
Striker – Joe Payne
Striker – Mick Harford

Substitute – Mark Stein

Is it a twelve you concur with, or would you make further changes?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article and if there are any other players, that fit the criteria, you can think of, please feel free to nominate them.
