Nine games into the 2023/2024 season and the Hatters are achieving their goal of staying out of the relegation places.

At the City Ground, against Nottingham Forest, it took a dramatic late comeback for Luton Town to rescue a point after being 2-0 down.

Goals from Chiedozie Ogbene and Elijah Adebayo were enough to send the travelling army of Hatters supporters home with smiles on their faces and with hope in their hearts that they can get a result, next weekend, in another away fixture, this time away to Aston Villa.

Following the dramatic comeback and talking to Sky Sports the gaffer had this to say about his side:

“I’m really proud of the players. The spirit, the fight and determination.

“We finish the game strongly. We will never give up, we will always keep fighting.

“We’re where we expected to be. Nobody expects us to be top four. We’re where we expected to be, in the fight we expected to be in. We’re comfortable with it.”

Indeed, if we can finish in 17th place it will be a tremendous achievement.

Continuing, Rob praised Elijah Adebyao for his performance after coming on as a substitute to try and rescue something from what looked like another defeat, with the gaffer adding:

“It was a great goal. He’s got those moments. He came on against Burnley and got his goal and he’s done it again today.

“He’s got these little moments of magic in him. The assist he got at Sheffield United, the assist at Wembley. He’s had big moments for us Eli since we’ve been here.

“He was frustrated not to start the game as I would expect, but that’s what you’ve got to do when you come on. That’s what I want. He gives me a difficult decision to make next week.”

Indeed he does, would you start with Adebayo, against Aston Villa next weekend?

bad decision to play burke against elanga. kabore was able to keep up with his electric pace when substituted. look forward to see osho perform in defence. there is a massive gap that appears in our defence, and its costing us goals. when chong and ruddock were subbed the midfield looked much better. barkley looked sharp, and knitted the midfield together. what a great player doughty is turning into. the team dug very deep to earn a vital point, very well done for the grit and determination that was shown. enjoy the ride.COYH.

I think Elijah has a lot more impact coming off the bench as defenders are beginning to tire. They can cope with his physicality from the off but dealing with him fresh on after 70 mins of chasing Morris around is a better option.

With Chong, Barkley and Townsend we have some good creative options. We just need to get the latter two match fit and up to speed. The games Barkley has started he has been knackered after 50 minutes, so he may be another who is more effective off the bench for now.
