Luton Town – The Big Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu Question

His story is the things that films are made of and that may well happen in years to come, but how will this particular tale progress?

Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, since joining the Hatters from West Ham United, will, when steps out onto the pitch next season, become the only player, in English football history, to play for the same club on a journey that has seen the midfielder play in the top five divisions of English football.

There have been calls for the achievement to be celebrated with a statue outside the Power Court development, or even name one of the four stands after him.

But, as we prepare to step into the top-flight of English football, the Premier League, it remains to see what lies in store for Pelly.

Last season the midfielder made just 18 starts in the EFL Championship, although I must add that once Rob Edwards took over, following Nathan Jones jumping ship, Pelly discovered a new lease of life and became, in my opinion, a much more influential player.

But with the competition for places being stepped up, I have to ask the following question:

How Many PL Appearances Will Pelly Make This Season?

1-10!

1-10!

11-20

11-20

21 or more!

21 or more!

One valued regular poster, Peter Scott, pre-empted this article and offered the following with regards to Pelly in a comment related to a similar article about Allan Campbell:

“Wee Al is only 25 and one of the fittest LTFC players I think he will play in 50% of the games this season. The question really is “how many games will Pelly play?” Pelly is 5 years older and not as fit as Wee Al. Out of kindness, LTFC will let Pelly play a game or two to get the record but don’t see him getting any more – he will be loaned out at Xmas to another team. Pelly did not play in the game against Posh for some reason.”

Is that something you concur with, or do you beg to disagree?

Poor old marmite let’s face it on here there are as many detractors as fans. All I’ll say is players who are performing should be in the team those who aren’t don’t play that’s what a manager should be looking at nothing else should matter. We have to be guided by that. That said previously managers have allowed players continually to play when not performing saying they will come good for to long. And that’s not just pelly but two or three others.

well said chris. the performance is the key. if you ain’t performing, you are not in the team. you can’t let sentiment over rule performance. COYH.

As I said in the adebayo debate, let the season start before any comments on players. Osho & bell came for stick early last season & look how they faired….the reason we comment on here is because we aren’t coaches or managers, so let them judge & do their jobs…pelly was far better under Edwards, so let a ball be kicked before we put him out to pasture….nobody can say how any of our players we fair this season, as we are entering new territory….
