Last night, sat in the pub with a few Chelsea supporting mates, I was anxious to say the least.

Our plight, as I penned yesterday – luton-town-the-great-relegation-debate-continues-to-enthrall-all – had me hoping that Chelsea could provide Luton Town with an enormous assist by beating another relegation candidate, Everton.

However, my aforementioned Chelsea supporting mates had warned me, ahead of kick-off, that they’re never quite sure what Chelsea to expect, the side that delivers against the top teams or the side that has a habit of losing to those lurking in the lower reaches of the Premier League table.

With my eyes glued to the screen, despite Everton making a bright start, Chelsea brushed aside Sean Dyche’s team running out 6-0 winners.

The result leaves Everton still 2 points ahead of the Hatters with a game in hand, but they still have to come to Kenilworth Road, on Friday 3rd May, a game we just have to win.

The 6-0 thrashing also put a serious dent in their goal difference and must have seriously dented their confidence as they face some stiff games in their final five fixtures. Most notabley games against Liverpool (h) and Arsenal (a).

However, their fate could hinge on that second points deduction recently handed out that the club confirmed they are going to appeal against, with that appeal set to be held before the last round of fixtures of the 2023/2024 season.

And my final action off the night was to buy my Chelsea supporting mates a round, it was the least I could do after that result.
