Luton and Cambridge toiled in the Bank Holiday sun but failed to break the deadlock as the spoils were shared.

For the visit of Cambridge United, John Still named a familiar line-up with the manager selecting the same eleven that had started against Forest Green Rovers on Saturday. Jon Shaw, troubled by a groin injury, took his place up front but there were no places for Lawless and Taiwo, both ruled out through injury.

For the first time this season, there was a significant amount of away support in the Oak Road end as, in bright sunshine; an effervescent Kenilworth Road welcomed the two sides. Luton got the action underway attacking the Oak Road end.

Cambridge carved out the first chance of the half, on five minutes, when Tait danced into the area but Tyler saved his shot with his legs. Luton responded with Cullen setting Gray on his way but the shot was well wide before Cambridge came straight back, in a game that was already end-to-end, when McNulty blocked an effort from Champion only for Arnold to lash the rebound wide. Tyler remained on top of his game to deny Arnold again as he beat the offside trap and tried to round the veteran keeper.

Luton responded well with a lay-off from Shaw finding Guttridge but his shot flew inches wide. Henry, defending well, blocked a shot from Arnold whilst the first booking of the game went to the ex-Hatter, Greg Taylor, for a foul on Andre Gray. Chances continued to be created at both ends with Tyler saving from Gunk and Gray also saw a header saved.

Guttridge was the next to go into the referees book for a foul on Champion whilst just past the half hour mark John Still made his first change of the afternoon when Cullen was replaced by Howells. The substitute was quickly into the action unleashing a shot that the Cambridge keeper, Maxwell, saved at the second attempt.

As half time approached Luton began to get the upper hand, a cross from Gray saw Shaw just fail to reach it and right on the half time whistle Guttridge scuffed a shot wide but the half finished with Shaw looking as if his troublesome groin would prevent him from carrying on.

Half Time – Luton 0 Cambridge 0

As suspected Shaw was unable to continue and Martin was introduced at the start of the second half. Cambridge got the action underway attacking the end behind which their away support was gathered.

Martin almost created a chance but Smith saw his effort land in the Kenilworth Road end. Some flowing football involving Guttridge and Howells saw a Gray header go just wide. Chances, compared to the opening half, were now at a premium and Hatters hearts were in their mouths as, with eighteen minutes to go, Sam-Yorke raced through after an error from Lacey but Griffiths, having a decent game,, produced an exceptional tackle.

Having already used two substitutes Hatters fans were worried when Smith went down with a head injury. With ten minutes to go Cambridge almost took the lead but Howells came to Luton`s rescue clearing off the line from Champion`s header. Cambridge were now in the ascendency and Luton were hanging on.

As the match entered the final few exchanges Howells saw a shot go wide and Smith tried his luck from distance but Maxwell coped all too easily with the effort. With four minutes of stoppage time declared Guttridge saw another effort miss the target but it was to end all square.

Attendance – 7,517 (963 away supporters)
