The January transfer window has now been and gone, unless someone is a free agent or has their contract cancelled by mutual consent, we have to live with the status quo.
When it came to departures, we said goodbye to James Bree, Cameron Jerome, Harry Cornick and Ed McJannet, whilst we welcomed Cody Drameh, Marvelous Nakamba, Jack Walton and Joe Taylor, albeit the first two only being on loan until the end of the season.
Also returning early, from loan spells, were Admiral Muskwe and Aribim Pepple.
But when it comes to the business the club did, it received a mixed reception on social media, some were delighted:
Marvelous
Anyone moaning needs to give their head a wobble
Deadwood gone and signed a quality defensive midfielder.
Love Luton 🧡— Shepltfc (@shepltfc) February 1, 2023
While others were a little, to put it politely, underwhelmed:
Serious losing Jerome and Cornick and not replacing them with anyone ready for this level. When Jerome and Adebayo get a knock we are scuppered, same as play-offs last season. Bad window and Taylor is really really poor by all accounts, hope he was free

Doesn't feel like going out of the window stronger than when we went into it🤔

Cornick to Muskwe and no CB through the door.. poor window for us IMO

But looking back on the deals that were done, how would you rate the 2023 January transfer window, as far as the Hatters are concerned?
Have we, like Rob Edwards hoped, come out of it a stronger unit or do you feel we didn’t fill the gaps where needed?
Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Luton – The Great Power Court Debate Continues On And On
Wake up people, we aren’t chelsea, players cost……when will people learn we are trying to get by on 10000 gates….what do you want, skint the club & end up back in the conference…..
Couldn’t agree more, some people want the world!
Short memories. We almost didn’t have a football club. Now, we sit fourth in the Championship. The consequence of outstanding owners and equally good business practice.
Forza 2020.
Exactly….some sensible comments….our is working miracles….
We can only do what we can, we don’t pay the best wages don’t have large crowds at Kenny and we don’t have rich owners so where we are is fantastic yes we all would have liked to sign Joe blocks but didn’t happen let’s just keep on getting behind the club and try to push higher and keep upsetting the FA and EFL . Coyh
Nowhere near!!! Losing 2 experienced forwards NOT strengthening the defence and the obsurd mind boggling transfer of a number2 keeper for a number2 keeper!!
And absolutely no point getting excited about loan signings
On plus side we sign a 20y/o forward who might be somewhere near our first 11 in 3/4 years time!!
Edwards said we would end deadline day stronger I fully disagree with that!!!
Steve, think about it, where does the money come from.????where were we 10 years ago….there have been many transfer windows with know activity.who to say muskwie won’t be a different prospect under this management. The goalkeeping deal was done simply because horvath is out of our price range. Edwards is highly likely to give pepple & muskwie the chance to prove themselves before he decides to stick or twist. Let’s try judging at the end of the season. In the meantime enjoy the ride & see where we finish. Cos even if we end up top half we are still over achieving in this climate.
Needed Drameh, great signing with Bree head turned, no point having a not interested player getting to Summer to leave for free.
Keepers were a weird swap around but I get long term planning and have faith.
Marvellous I understand bringing in quality for the run in but can’t say I’m a huge fan of unrealistic loans when not essential.
Nothing against Taylor or MH, just think we are falling for the same trap of getting excited for something we are unproven on how to nurture.
Jerome and Cornick have served their purpose, great servants, fantastic people, wish them well but not concerned they’ve left as I think Admiral and Fred provide between them pace and physicality which is what we were getting from Corns and Cam.
Overall a good window, concern more on bringing players in than not signing more, time will tell how this helps long-term.
Alan and I know that at least 2 deals didn’t happen. Everyone would have said great if they had. But that’s what happens when fans want to live beyond a clubs means. I’ve had a conversation with Alan on the Muskwie post. In my mind the club needs a slight policy change but that’s another story altogether.
I’m pretty sure the club were expecting to lose Cornick but perhaps weren’t planning on losing Jerome in this window.
Presumably any possible target(s) lined up to replace atleast one of them didn’t materialize so plan B was to re-call Muskwe from Fleetwood who have ironically brought in two ex-Hatters in Marriott & Stockley whom imo are both an upgrade on Muskwe based on what he’s previously shown here.
Here’s hoping Adebayo & Morris avoid injuries, Muskwe has improved somewhat and maybe an out of contract experienced striker could still be brought in if we still have a spare place in the 25 squad

be interesting to see if muskwe has improved. as alan says money dose’nt grow on trees.we all would love to see big names arrive, but we can’t afford them. even with the players we have now, its a big expense every week. COYH
good to hear Paul Trollope confirm that there is still a one space within the squad for another signing should a suitable free agent fit our needs
