As we await the visit of Wigan Athletic, for an FA Cup 3rd round tie at Kenilworth Road, I thought I’d revisit a previous article.

Back in March last year, after much deliberation, we published the following article – they-played-for-both-wigan-athletic

which listed the following starting XI (plus substitute) that fitted the criteria:

Goalkeeper – Christian Walton

Defender – Darren Patterson
Defender – Kal Naismith
Defender – Reece Burke
Defender – Matthew Jackson

Midfielder – Danny Wilson
Midfielder – Kevin Nicholls
Midfielder – Glen Rea
Midfielder – Ryan Tunnicliffe

Forward – Wayne Biggins
Forward – Mike Newell

Substitute – Emmerson Boyce

Requests for the names of those who fitted the criteria but who I’d not included, only produced one solitary name:

• John Bramwell

But, as was pointed out, Bramwell played before my introduction to football at the age of six.

Looking at the starting XI though, there are some very familiar names of players who will always have a place in Luton Town folklore, namely:

• Danny Wilson
• Kevin Nicholls
• Mike Newell

With the late playing for and managing the Hatters.

Also worthy of a mention is Matthew Jackson, a player who came through the Luton ranks before moving on to Everton where he had a decent career followed by long spells at Norwich City and Wigan Athletic.

But what memories do you have of those listed above?

Please feel free to share them in the comment facility beneath this article.
