Luton – The Hylton And Moncur Dilemma

The 2020 / 2021 season appears to have flown by, perhaps courtesy of the season, calendar wise, being truncated.

Come the close season, here at Vital Luton Town, we are envisaging numerous changes to the squad.

Several players who are currently on loan will return to their parent clubs and decisions must be made about who the club offers new contracts to with several players out-of-contract this summer.

There could also be a case made for some players wanting to end their time with the club due to a lack of regular match time.

One news source, Football League World, has run an article inferring that two favourites of the Hatters support, Danny Hylton and George Moncur, could be heading for the Kenilworth Road exit this summer.

Hylton, who has scored prolifically in League One and League Two football, has struggled for game time and has only made 19 appearances this season and has failed to open his scoring account this season.

Moncur, is suffering similarly having made only 21 appearances this season and, despite his skills, does not appear to fit into Nathan Jones plans.

Cases could be made that both could / should have been used more frequently.

But with Nathan keen to push the club on, it is doubtful that the situation will change, both could drop down a division, with a new club, to enjoy regular firs team action.

Considering the above, what are your views on the duo?

Should they be sold or should either or both be given new deals.

Please feel free to have your say in the poll below and in the comment facility beneath this article.

Hi mh, both these players will leave in the summer I believe. Hylts has the look of a player that needs a fresh challenge. Moncur a player I like just doesn’t seem to fit in njs plans any more so likewise should go. I won’t name anyone but 4 more players should be moving on as well as I believe they also need a fresh challenge to motivate them again. Allowing us to revitalise our team with slightly younger players and also players like perrara who is looking good with the under 21 team and has prm experience already

morning all, love Hylts and all his gamesmanship but with Adebayo making a strong claim for a regular starting place and Collins also ahead of him it’s hard to make a case for keeping him really. Not sure if he’s going to be happy sitting on the bench again for the final year of his contract so i’d expect him to follow Shinnie into League 1.
I’d like to see us keep Lee if possible but it sounds as though he didn’t get the answers he was wanting from NJ about regular starts so suspect he’ll be off permanently.
That’s 2 strikers potentially off the books, 3 if you include Noumbe who is yet to warrant a permanent contract in my opinion, there’s 3 wages available for a new striker which we will need. A young pacey striker from a Premiership club on loan similar to when we had Connolly from Brighton would be a good addition to out strike force and offer us something else up front.

Moncs is a hard one to call, still a good squad age at 27 with plenty of talent but for whatever reason he never seems to play for 90 mins when selected. Certainly won us some valuable points when in League 1 but with limited opportunities this season he too looks like he may depart though it’s quite possible he’s one of the players who are currently in negotiations over a new contract, who knows !

Hi all, I also love hylts but as always happens it’s time for him to move on, what great signing for a league one club he would be, as he could still do a job…strange one on moncs as he has plenty to offer.. think Bradley may be one to move on now after the emergence of Naismith at centre half and lockeyer who was playing well b4 injury…busy summer ahead I feel….

Hi all, I would like to see Hylts & Moncur stay but agree that both are wasted as mainly bench warmers who could both do fantastic jobs at other clubs. As I’ve said before although I think NJ has done a great job at Luton, feel he is too loyal to a small nucleus of players however they play & the ones on the fringe aren’t getting enough game time to impress. I will also add I am dubious that Nombe has the composure needed at this level, but why too sign these players(Kioso included) then don’t play them? However very pleased we have albut reached safety without the drama of last season.

Hylton has been a legend for Luton but did not really do it in League 1 and Championship. He should go and become a hero for another club – Moncur would be as good as any midfielder we have if he is allowed to play – his performance when he plays is far better than Pelly for example if you look at the stats. Moncur played for England at many Junior levels and if given a good run would be outstanding.
