Luton Support Divided On Future Of Midfielder

Last night, with a round of friendly international matches taking place, it was interesting that Luton’s Joe Morrell played eighty-three minutes for Wales.

Now this is the same Joe Morrell that appears to be surplus to requirements at Kenilworth Road but very much a part of the Welsh EURO 2020 plans.

Recently, here at Vital Luton Town, we ran an article – luton-facing-midfield-crisis – whereby, as the title implied, we feared for the Luton midfield what with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall having left and George Moncur not being wanted and with there also being doubts about Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu’s future at the club.

Our article also contained a poll, to enable us to gauge your opinion, relating to the possible departure of the midfielder who featured little for Luton last season, with the question simply reading:

Can Luton Afford To Lose Morrell?

To avoid anybody siting on the proverbial fence, we only offered two answers, a straight YES or NO!

As it turned out the NO’s won, but only just, with 52% compared to the 48% who voted YES.

Now I have no idea as to why, after signing from Bristol City last summer, Morrell hardly featured but could it be a case of first season syndrome.

Football is littered with instances of new signings failing to make an impact in that crucial first season but then going on to be a success.

We should also not forget that Morrell arrived during particularly challenging times with the pandemic being a prominent factor in everyone’s life.

Perhaps the answer we are waiting for will only come once the EURO 2020 tournament is over and Morrell and Nathan Jones can sit down and discuss the situation.

Until then, we can only ponder and wait and see.
