Luton Facing Midfield Crisis

We always believed this summer would be, for Luton, a busy one when it comes to revamping the squad ahead of the 2021/2022 season.

But in doing so are we heading for something akin to a midfield crisis?

The reason we ask is that with Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall having returned to Leicester City, after the conclusion of his season-long loan deal and with George Moncur having been released by the club, there is also the possibility that Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu may also choose not to sign a new deal.

But if that was not bad enough, speculation has emerged, overnight, linking one of last summers signings with a move away from the club.

According to The 72, Joe Morrell is set to leave the club this summer.

The 24-year-old, signed from Bristol City last summer, has become increasingly frustrated at his lack of game time for the Hatters.

Last season, Morrell only featured in 10 Championship games, his predicament can be highlighted by the fact that the midfielder has clocked up more minutes on the pitch for Wales this season than he has for Luton, an astonishing fact.

Now whether Luton will grant Morrell his desire to leave remains to be seen, but even without this latest complication, the midfield is now looking to be an area of the pitch which is approaching crisis proportions.

Morning mh, I only want to deal with Morrell why if he’s had talks about his future an wants out did nj let moncs leave!!!! Morrell isn’t in moncs class in fact me an my mates call him the ferret in memory of a former luton midfielder an criminal. He spends all his time wondering around midfield watching the play passing by!!! In case you wondering who he takes after the initials are m m. Another fraud

  • Chris winter says:

I see from the voting at the moment that people want him to stay. If a player isn’t happy then ship him out ASAP. We don’t need players who can cause disruption with their moaning!!!!

I think we have to trust NJ and the recruitment team. I’m waiting for the announcement regarding another incoming striker. Adebayo can’t do it all on his own.

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Phil, don’t worry about about a striker it’s in hand. But they are harder to get so may have to be patient with for a week or two.

  • JohnnyT says:

Agree with you both, if he wants to leave he has to leave. Recent years our squad has been based on hunger to play and improve yourself. I loved watching Moncs so I’m sorry about that.

I don’t think you can call it a crisis when the transfer window isn’t even officially open yet. There is obviously an issue with Morrell. For one reason or another he is not a good fit for Luton. We know that the players are a close-knit group and that they work their socks off in training whether in favour or not. Clearly, his footballing ability is there but something is not right. Perhaps he thinks he’s too good to work hard or is disruptive? Perhaps he’s a Bertie Big Cahones? Whatever the reason, looks like he’s on his bike. Trust the process. Any areas that need a player will get one.

It s obvious that there is an issue with Joe Morrell .When he signed I was suspicious of his lack of game time at Bristol City. Not often NJ gets it wrong but appears maybe his attitude not as it should be ?

  • Ian Moulson says:

As long as we don’t get Tom Ince back waste of time last season

  • Chris winter says:

Hi all, from the voting an comments on here I can’t see how he can stay now. As if he’s picked I can see the supporters crucifying him. So best he’s sold ASAP

  • Alan says:

Hi all, interesting afternoon golfing and a pint in the harpenden Arms….Morrell has an on going ankle problem and an attitude issue… the issue with moncs was, like it or not, his work rate when not in possession….

    • Chris winter says:

Morrell ain’t known as the ferret for nothing walking round the midfield sniffing the air!!!!

  • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, no real news with those in the know, now you’ve put it up. Still feel moncs was a little hard done by especially with Morrell still on the payroll!!!

  • Alan says:

Not saying it was big news mate, just saying what was said….

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, that wasn’t meant to sound like that. Just that I couldn’t understand the logic as moncs is still a class above Morrell An they could have put Morrell on the transfer list an seen what happened.

  • Alan says:

Got ya mate, understand that. You know I was a big moncs fan too…
