Before the Bank Holiday weekend descend upon us, we reported on how Luton Town were closing in on the signing of a defender.

Our article – luton-on-verge-of-signing-defender – named the defender as the former West Ham youngster, now on the books of Hull City, Reece Burke.

Today, it has been confirmed by ITV News that Reece Burke has decided that his future lies with Luton Town FC.

Last season, Reece was part of the Hull squad that won the League One title, making 37 appearances.

His signing is a real coup for Nathan Jones who, as reported by our referenced source, had this to say about the free transfer:

“We’re delighted to get this deal for Reece done because we’ve liked him for a while.

“He’s a good age, has good pedigree and is different to what we have at the club. He turned down other Championship clubs to come here, so we are convinced of his commitment to become a top player, which we feel he will achieve.

“He will give us different options which will help us to evolve, so we can’t wait to get working with him when we return for pre-season later this month.”

It is a signing that impresses me, having lost Matty Pearson to Huddersfield Town, Jones has moved quickly to fill the defensive gap in our squad.

It remains to be seen who Nathan selects as his central defenders or whether he opts to play three at the back utilising a wing-back system.

All that remains for me to do it to welcome Reece to Kenilworth Road and wish him a happy and successful Luton Town career and congratulate Nathan and his team for persuading such a fine prospect to come to our fine club.
