The start of the EFL Championship 2021/2022 season is approximately six weeks away, but Luton’s transfer activity, this summer, has created a real buzz among the support.
Seven new signings (as I type) has certainly given the squad the revamp it needs and I could not help but notice, on social media, the latest of these, Carlos Mendes Gomes, has prompted talk of the Hatters being involved in the promotion race, as the posts below show:

But are we in danger of getting carried away?
Last season, with Nathan Jones back at the managerial helm, the Hatters finished a very respectable 12th position in the Championship, some might say we punched above our weight.
Now, it is essential that we continue to improve, personally I would be more than happy with a top eight finish, something I believe we are capable of if our squad bonds and lives up to its potential.
But talk of promotion, no not for me!
The Hatters are what is commonly referred to as a work in progress, our future depends upon the regeneration of the club via the Power Court developments, once built, Power Court will be the foundation upon which a new Luton Town FC will be launched.
There will be a new financial infrastructure to drive the club forward, the spanking new ground will be capable of supporting Premier League football.
In an ideal world, the season before we move into Power Court would be the ideal opportunity to earn promotion to the elite league of English football, not now.
Promotion now would be a dangerous game, having to fund a Premier League team while still at our quaint old ground could undermine the very foundations the club are laying in place, getting into the Premier League is one thing but staying there is a totally different ball game, as many a Championship side will vouch.
Promotion at this stage of our development could do far more harm than good.
But have I gauged this subject matter correctly?

Kenilworth Road stadium is not big enough for to be in the pl
Hi mh, feet on the ground as usual between 8th an 13th an I’d be happy as you say work in progress. An need power court first
we cant afford promotion now ,
the wages & cost of players would CRIPPLE us ! Much bigger clubs than us have gone right back down again, despite spending FORTUNES on new players .
I totally agree we need the financial backing of all the development building projects to be able to even THINK of promotion ! The premiere league is 10 times more expensive
than in our old div 1 days. & even then we sold sold sold for the last 3 years after winning the cup ! even back then we couldn’t keep up financially when wages were a FRACTION of those today !
An honest and fair response that gets a thumbs up from me!
Are we ready for promotion not yet but we are building a team of young and experienced players who might take us there by 2024. What must be the most exciting pre-season ever we supporters must give credit to Gary, Nathan and Mick for taking on board such a great selection of new players. Still believe there might be one or possibly two still to come and a couple of great servants to the club still to go.

I know going up would put a great financial burden on us and we would only come back down again but what great ride and the kenny full just one last go for the old stadium before moving, the likes man utd and Liverpool again just like the 80,s. Then the parachute money to help pay for the new stadium cyoh
now the point about parachute money is a good one but up and down (like Watford will do) isn’t, to me, the way forward.
Andrew I may be wrong about this but I think the Kenny wouldn’t meet prem standards. And we would have to play elsewhere. Which I wouldn’t want
Imagine having to play at Vicarage Road! We could invade Watford every fortnight 🙂
I know they would anything to stop us playing in the premiership but what a way for the old stadium to go out . But I do think it’s a team that is going to push the so called bigger teams this year and I wouldn’t be surprised if we near the play offs come may time .
Point is if we fly and finish top 3 what do we do, tell the governing bodies we can’t go up cos we ain’t ready……
we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it 🙂
Hi Alan, I imagine we would copy Brentford get to Wembley for the money 2 or 3 times Ann lose till we’re ready.
Ready for promotion only when we have our new state of the art premiership ground and continue to be soundly managed financially. Also need to dort now indoor training facility.
Care and patience please.
Just òutside play offs or nearly successful play off run.
Build for 2024 / 2025
A good cup run
Still sore from losing our opportunity to play in Europe in 1988.
Courtesy other clubs.
Sounds pretty good to me Alan…
well said alan, walk before you run. we all have hopes and dreams with promotion, but patience is the key. 2024/2025 is realistic. power court is vital for promotion. fingers crossed.COYH AND ITALY.
