Luton Players Will Not Be Taking The Knee This Season

Although those that run the Premier League have decreed that those clubs that play in the top-flight of English football will take the knee before games, that is not the case in the EFL.

Indeed, Luton Town have confirmed, via a – Club Statement – that the players have made a united decision not to take the knee.

Like many supporters, they feel it has become an action that is being misrepresented as a political symbol.

Instead, the club statement informs us that the players intend to stand together around the centre circle in support of all other teams that choose to do so.

Taking the knee is something that we discussed in an article last season and, if I recall correctly, it was met with a mixed response from our readership, some were for but others were against.

This latest decision will, no doubt, prove to be a talking point, but when it comes to racial equality, I would hazard a guess that Luton are among the leaders when it comes to fairness and giving everyone an equal opportunity.

It remains to see how many clubs in the Championship follow Luton’s example though, will it be the majority or the minority?
