Luton – One Thing Puzzles Me About Cambridge

The 4th round FA Cup clash is drawing ever nearer as the Luton support contemplate a decent cup run.

After disposing of Harrogate, in the 3rd round the Hatters were given a trip to League One Cambridge United, in the 4th round.

Although not quite a local derby, it is a fixture many of us have good memories of.

With an allocation of just 1473 tickets, it is no surprise that they are now Sold Out.

But one thing has always puzzled me about Cambridge?

On Monday, I had reason to visit Addenbrookes Hospital and could only marvel at the size and reputation of the facility.

It is the same if you venture into the city centre, the architecture and grandiose surroundings give an indication as to just how historical the city is.

And then there is the River Cam with tourists taking a punt and gently cruising along its still waters.

Which brings me back to the one thing that puzzles me!

Why is Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium so, (insert your own word) for such a great city?

Answers on a postcard please!

wow luton;s ground is so nice plus has a much bigger fan base some people have said is worst ground they have ever been to so many people cant see the game with posts in the way and the strangest way to go in a ground through someone\s garden so may be the abbey is a little tired old need a new toilet but is better then Kenilworth road any day

point taken, but we’re not a city and we have BIG plans afoot!

Sounds like sour grapes to me Kenilworth Road is tired and dated but lets see if you have the same opinion once new stadium is built you can onlt dream of being where we are

Town vs Gown as old as Cambridge itself. No one gets it from the outside which is why opposing fans miss the mark hilariously ‘taunting’ us about the Boat Race. Postcard vs Post Code

The University has a sniffy view of working people from Cambridge and especially the Football Club. Nimbyism and the Council, plus our careful budget, hamper upgrading.

most clubs would love the promise of a new stadium. a lot of people enjoy the memories an old ground can give. for me, can’t wait for new stadium, make a fresh start, hopefully make the next step. you can keep your memories of the special atmosphere that the kenny has, and hope that the new ground can some how replicate that atmosphere. 2020 are doing a fantastic job, juggling finances, wading through the planning minefield as they do,every day. great dedication is needed for this, and i for one thank them for there efforts. keep up the good work you are doing.COYH.

As a Cambridge fan, I like Kenilworth Road – especially the endearingly tin pot trek through a back garden and over someone’s fence to get to the away end – and will be sad to see you leave it for a soulless out-of-town ground in a retail park focused on “the customer experience” rather than atmosphere and character.

My worst away day experience this season has been MK – overbearing music, naff corporate videos, terrible atmosphere but very comfortable seats and convenient for chain restaurants if you like that kind of thing.

The Abbey is great for similar reasons as to why Kenilworth Road is great.
