Luton – Loan Signing Announcement Expected

|

Although Luton Town have added seven players to what is a revamped squad this summer, it is looking very much as if an eighth new addition could soon be announced.

On Saturday, in a friendly fixture against Rochdale, a game which the Hatters won 4-0, Luton fielded a triallist in the second half, with the triallist being confirmed as Khanya Leshabela.

If our gut feeling is correct, then it appears that Luton are following a tried and trusted agenda.

Leshabela, just 21-years-of-age, is on the books of Leicester City and according to the local media source Leicestershire Live, is set to be allowed to continue his development with a season out on loan in the Championship.

If that is to be the case, then the South African born youngster, who has impressed playing for the Leicester City U23 side, will be following in the footsteps of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who had a successful season with us last time out.

Although born in South Africa, Leshabela grew up just up the road in Northampton and has just the one Premier League appearance to his name, coming on as a late substitute in the 5-0 win over Sheffield United in March.

The potential signing has raised the issue of whether the Hatters should be bringing in players on loan rather than going for permanent deals, with some of our readership implying that it is like renting a house as opposed to buying it, paying out money for something you will never own.

But it is the way football has developed over the last few years and most clubs, in the Championship utilise the system one way or another. Therefore, it is my opinion that it is a system that Luton must utilise to the best of their ability.

However, it is a view you concur with.

Approximately 35% of houses are rented in the U.K. I’m sure most of the renters would rather own their house. Sometimes you have to compromise. It means we get to watch the likes of CCV and KDH in a Luton shirt. I’m surprised we are considering a player without a double barrelled name though! 🙄

Morning mh, at the moment I concur with jimbo, an don’t see the need for a loan. With 25 players to be named in a championship squad. With the number of players being signed up an possibly more to come. Our squad is now well over that number. Are we really going to block the path of young players of our own to boost the sell on price of a player not of ours. The players we have an the younger ones trying to break into the first team must be given the chance to prove themselves. Then if its not working bring in loans. Also with pelly seemingly on his way. Don’t you feel that the board has been very lax to allow the situation to develop whereby a probable £1mill player is leaving an we get nothing for him.

Hi Chris, I agree, something is wrong when the club allows contracts to run down and let players leave for free, especially with money so tight in the game at the moment. But I’m not sure how they would get around it, I’m not sure clubs out there would pay a fee, like us they are scouting the bargain buckets looking to pick up gems for next to nothing other than wages.
