Matt Mills was left unmarked in the penalty area to put the home side ahead in the 35th minute after a mixture of great keeping by Dean Brill and desperate defending, prevented a landslide.

More of the same followed until 82 minutes when Mark McCammon made the game safe from what might have proved to be a mugging had Luton managed an equaliser, such was the home side’s dominance in the match.

The home side were never really pressed and should have scored a hatful starting with a poor miss by Green in the opening exchanges.

Dean Brill pulled of a series of flying saves and blocks which looked like it might frustrate the home team but they stuck to their guns and Mills Coppinger Roberts and McCammon all found themselves thwarted by the Town keeper when they should have scored.

Something had to give and even then Brill was unlucky having made a great save from McCammon’s header but it fell straight to Mills and as Brill scambled to his feet Mills just managed to get the ball past a desperate dive from the young keeper.

Luton attacks were a rarity but Parkin set up Currie soon after the Doncaster goal but just struck a shot wide.

The second half was the same as the first with Doncaster forming waves of attacks and Luton defending for all they were worth, and Dean Brill continuing with his man of the match performance.

Luton had a couple of half chances but it was no surprise when McCammon sealed the win late on.

Mick Harford was disappointed with his side’s overall performance but obviously singled out DEan Brill for praise and magnanimously stated that Doncaster were a class outfit who deserve promotion.

Luton: Brill, Asafu-Adjaye, Keane, Hutchison, Davis (Andrew 73), Emanuel, Spring, O’Leary, Currie, Parkin, McVeigh (Robinson 46),

Subs not used: Beresford, Langley, Jackson
