Luton – It’s All In The Name

When the Hatters new development, Power Court, has been built and is up and running, it wouldn’t surprise me if a sponsorship name for the stadium was sought.

Football has moved on from it being purely a spectator sport, it is now more of a financial business with investment needed to support turnstile revenue in balancing the books.

Throughout my time as a Luton fan, the ground has always been known as Kenilworth Road, now whether there has ever been any interest in a sponsors name for the quaint old ground, I’m not aware of.

But with the new development to be paid for it is an option, no doubt, those that run the club will consider, in detail, any companies that show an interest.

However, if a deal is done and Power Court does operate under a sponsor’s name, I do hope they take great care in selecting the company they choose to partner with.

It seems that the League One side, Bolton Wanderers, have upset their support by the choice of name for what I always refer to as the Reebok Stadium.

From July, and for the next five years, according to the BBC, it will officially be knows as The Toughsheet Community Stadium.

I can’t help but snigger at the name, it just evokes, for me, memories of Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson in their days performing the magical Bottom programme!

The only sure thing involved with naming the new stadium is it will not be related to gambling the board have been very clear that they do not advertise gambling.that said my hope is it will be just the 2020 stadium or power court stadium.

Interesting re gambling, just watching TV and it looks like Premier League teams will not be allowed to have gambling firms as sponsors on the front of their shirts!

Our great leaders won’t o with an embarrassing name like the Beaver Homes Community Stadium, the KitKat Stadium or Vicarage Road. I hope we keep the ban on drums too.
