Luton – Former Hatter Lands New Role

Back in the last knockings of the EFL 2022/2023 season, I had a wry smile on my face when MK Dons were relegated to the bottom tier.

I’ve never forgiven those who ran the club, at the time, who tried to entice the Hatters away from Kenilworth Road to become the new city’s team.

I really felt for the supporters of the original Wimbledon who saw the team they followed, up sticks and move circa 50 miles north, I kept thing that it could have been us.

Following the move, I was as pleased as punch when AFC Wimbledon were established and climbed into the Football League.

Poetic justice that both teams will compete in the same division next season, or is that a bit harsh on AFC Wimbledon?

I still wonder whether, if it had been Luton enticed north, we could have followed the same path.

However, despite my disdain for the MK Dons, I will be keeping an eye out for their results next season, simply because of who they have appointed as their new manager.

A former Hatters favourite, Graham Alexander, has been charged with reviving their fortunes.

Now Graham made 150 league appearances for the Hatters, between 1995 and 1999, scoring on 15 occasions, with most of his goals coming from the penalty spot.

Signed for a modest transfer fee, of £150,000, Alexander was a spot-kick expert, did he ever miss one for Luton Town?

Here’s a clip, courtesy of LUTON VIDS, showing Graham’s expertise from twelve yards out:

After leaving Luton Town, to sign for Preston North End and Burnley, Graham’s ability saw him make 40 appearances for Scotland, a fine achievement.

I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing Graham all the best in his latest managerial role.

Errrrr…… No, not really. Unless you mean luck by taking them to the National League, where even that is too high for them.

I see your feelings are still strong on the MK Dons subject, I think I’m mellowing with old age 🙂
