With there being an age before the Championship resumes, courtesy of the latest international break, here at Vital Luton Town, we thought we’d take an in-depth look at the promotion race.

Our aim is to cover one of our rivals for promotion, each day.

Looking at the table, I’m not discounting any of the top 12 teams although I think it is fair to say that Fulham, who currently top the table, are almost home and dry with a 14-point lead over the play-off pack.

Therefore, in the coming days, I’ll cover the following clubs who I reckon can still play a huge part in the promotion shake-up:

• AFC Bournemouth
• Luton Town
• Huddersfield Town
• Sheffield United
• Blackburn Rovers
• Middlesbrough
• Queens Park Rangers
• Nottingham Forest
• Millwall
• Coventry
• West Bromwich Albion

I should warn you, it is my intention to leave Luton, until last.

To get this little project started, I’ll go with many people’s favourites to finish behind Fulham, in the automatic places – AFC Bournemouth

As it stands, Bournemouth occupy 2nd place in the table and have accumulated 69 points from 36 games, they sit 8 points adrift of Fulham but have 2 games in hand.

Their form from the last 5 games is – LDWDW – meaning they have accumulated 8 points from the last 15 available.

The south coast side have 10 games left to play with the opposition being as thus:

• Bristol City (h)
• West Bromwich Albion (a)
• Sheffield United (a)
• Middlesbrough (h)
• Coventry City (a)
• Fulham (h)
• Swansea City (a)
• Blackburn Rovers (a)
• Nottingham Forest (h)
• Millwall (h)

5 homes games and 5 away games still to play, although 8 of those 10 games are against sides that are also in the promotion shake up.

With 30 points to play for, my view is that Bournemouth will claim 21 of those 30, 6 wins, 3 draws and 1 loss, available, leaving them finishing on 90 points, probably enough to see them clinch that second automatic place.

But is that something you concur with?

Tomorrow, we’ll focus on Huddersfield Town.

  • Alan says:

Kioso had a hamstring problem, had locks not have been on the bench NJ would have chanced leaving him on. Berry got a whack on the ankle 1st half, tried to run it off, but was replaced by pelly as a precation….if you were there jimbo surely you would have noticed this. Just to add pelly did play well once coming on….
