Luton – Europe Could Have Been Quite A Journey For Us All

Sat in the pub the other night, probably because of a lack of anything decent on the old goggle box a posting on a social network site got us all talking.

The posting, shown below:

was linked to the recent charges levelled at Manchester City, with, as you can see, a Liverpool fans spouting on about the 100+ charges costing them several Premier League titles.

But it was the reply that got us talking, the fact that several clubs, because of the Liverpool fans behaviour at the Heysel Stadium, including Luton, were deprived of European football.

It shouldn’t be forgotten that the period during which the ban was effective, was probably the best era in the history of our club, a highest finish in top flight football (7th) and our first major trophy (the League Cup)

Now, the only time I’ve ever seen the Hatters in Europe was in the Anglo-Italian Cup when, if I recall right, I saw Bari play at Kenilworth Road.

But, with English football ruling the roost before our expulsion, our motley crew were of the opinion we could have done quite well in Europe and that it could have opened the gates for our recruitment policy, with the additional income, to be upped a gear.

However, sat here in the editorial chair, I’d be intrigued to know how you thought the Luton side of that era would have done in Europe, especially as we were quite capable of beating, on our day, anyone at Kenilworth Road.

Yes, this has bugged me for years, and is a big part of why I detest Liverpool fc!
That mid to late eighties LTFC side would have given any European side a run for its money at the time.
And when you factor in the confines of Kenilworth rd, it would have made for quite an adventure for the Hatters.

And as you mention we can only dream of the benefits that could have come our way because of it, we could be sitting here with other silverware in a cupboard in a new home ground built off of the back of it reminiscing about awful it must be to play outside of the premiershite!!

    Scouse gits!

It isn’t Scousers fault, remember they are the perennial victims and we should all blame Maggie, the Tories, the Police, UEFA… Everyone but the Scousers because as they have whined at me my entirely life, butter wouldn’t melt and they have everyone out to get them.
If ever we do make Europe, I hope all our earnings are donated to their charitable cause

Luton on tour… that would have been some adventure. looking on the Internet the possibilities of playing Bayern Munich, Roma, Inter, Napoli, Athletico Madrid et al.
It is also a reason for my dislike of LFC.
