Luton – Could Jones Be Set To Remain As Luton Boss?

Was last night, at the BET365 Stadium, Nathan Jones last game in charge of Luton Town FC?

It would seem that might not be the case!

Following the 2-0 defeat, away to Stoke, Jones gave an indication that, perhaps, his might is not made up with The BBC

reporting the following post-match remarks:

“I’ve got a wonderful relationship with everyone at the football club.

“These things sometimes happen.

“I’ve had a number of enquiries during my six years at Luton, but I’ve always loved my relationship with everyone.

“I hope the fans understand why I’m going for the chat because it’s a different world in the Premier League. I want to be there one day, whether that’s with Luton or with someone else.

“It’s just an opportunity to go and chat and to find out if it is right for me.”

Is there enough in those words to quell the suspicion that Nathan is leaving us?

When the news broke that Nathan was the favourite for the vacant Southampton job, it seemed that everyone thought it was nailed on, our poll had 90% of those who voted implying he was off.

But, some forty-eight hours later, it doesn’t seem quite so clear-cut with that majority now reduced to 75%, quire a drop.

However, to me, the fact that Jones is even prepared to talk to a struggling Premier League side casts doubts on his long-term future at Kenilworth Road / Power Court, the loyalty he preaches just took a dramatic hit!

Which way do you think this will swing?

Morning mh, this has now become a very difficult situation. The board has placed him in an insidious position. Will his ” love of our club” be enough for him to stay or has the board done enough damage to his reputation with the fans and himself to say sod this let’s go. In my opinion the board has totally derailed our season due to its actions and now God knows where we will end up. My opinion of nj is well known but my sympathy is with him now. An whatever his decision I won’t blame him as I don’t feel he’s at fault anymore. THIS IS THE BOARDS DOING

couldn’t agree more, there should have been a veil of silence over the whole matter until it was sorted one way or another

I’ve been mulling this over, and it surely would have been leaked. In today’s age of social media I think they may have looked at the damage of others reporting it happening and how that would have been percieved and so bit the bullet to try and be transparent… It has backfired and doesn’t shine any good light on them now but I can understand why they did.
Trying to stay calm and hoping he stays but expecting the worst.

I guess we’ll know one way or another late today!

        • Chris winter says:

Hi Steve, yes it may have been leaked. But all the board needed to release was a statement saying that Southampton had approached for permission to talk but negotiations into compensation meant that until after Tuesday nothing was going to happen until compensation was agreed. This would have cleared nj to carry on. Simple except the twats wanted transparency.

I have a filling he will stay he knows what a highly regarded manager he is at Luton Town he done amazing on very tight budget brought in players that can mow cut it at this level . Lastly, to all the fans ready to call him out just remember with out him over the last thew years we would not be ware we are now

nj seemed like a lost soul on the touchline, and it seemed to spread to the team. we were at sixes and sevens all through the game, but we still should have won. we needed that little bit of luck, and would have won. isted done well in goal, and lockyer scored a lovely goal, but in the wrong goal. we had loads of chances to score last night, even though the team were’nt firing on all cylinders. the manager situation is being conducted in a professional way, but so bloody annoying for the fans. hope he makes the right decision, the premier league is every managers dream, but southampton seems a bit risky. We weren’t dismantled and showed more bluster than fight but still deserved more from the game, luck and finishing and would be a different result.
For me, I don’t blame Isted for the goals, but he didn’t have a great game… Distribution was shocking and very shy to come and collect on occasions. Missed Horvath as with a make shift defence and formation you need that confidence to spread from the very back.
Not calling him out, I like Isted and is a loyal, talented and patient member of the squad and glad he got a start.

      • Chris winter says:

Hi Steve, I think the problem for isted is that he’s had no game time. With macey now the development team keeper. He hasn’t played a proper game in month’s. Meaning he’s only trained with the 1st team an was rusty like you I’m a fan of his an think circumstances an situation last night went against him.

I find it hard to agree with all the comments against the board and NJ.
    This is Southampton’s doing!!!
They were the ones who sacked their manager and within a few mins tried to reassure their fan base by leaking to the press that they were going for Jones.
Our board had to put out a statement as everyone else was coming up with their own assumptions.
I also feel that if Jones wants to go to the Prem, then good luck, he’s done an excellent job here.
We now move on and I’m excited by the names currently linked as NJ successor.
    COYMH!

    • Mad Hatter says:

which of the linked names excites you the most, may I ask?

    • Mick H says:

I agree, isn’t it better that a Luton Manager moves on because he has done an excellent job and is wanted rather than sacked because he is not. Good luck to NJ which ever way he goes. Managers come managers go, the world carries on, too many people spend to much time taking snippets of dubious information as fact to predict the worse outcome, that’s what put the board and NJ in a difficult place.
