It is almost a week since Nathan Jones took the biggest gamble of his life, in leaving Luton Town to join Southampton.
I say biggest gamble because the team he chose to join, Southampton, are flirting with the relegation places.
Nathan’s main priority, in joining Southampton, is to maintain the clubs Premier League status and it appears according to the following social media posting:
🟠 CEO reveals Town will receive 'Brucie Bonus' if Jones keeps #SaintsFC in Premier League:#Luton will receive what Town CEO Gary Sweet described as a ‘Brucie Bonus’ should former manager Nathan Jones keep Southampton in the Premier League.

If Nathan can achieve that goal then Luton Town FC, in addition to the £4-5 million compensation already received for his services, will further benefit financially.
On signing on the bottom line as the new Saints gaffer, Nathan would have hoped for an easier first game than Liverpool (a), but then again Nathan probably recognised that as far as first games go, it was a free shot, with nobody expecting Southampton to win.
As it turned out, Liverpool emerged the victors 3-1, although it wasn’t all one-way traffic with Southampton equalising after Liverpool had taken the lead and also forcing the Liverpool keeper, Alisson Becker, into producing a string of fine saves to preserve Liverpool’s lead.
Now, looking at the Premier League table, Southampton, under Jones, are in a precarious 19th place, but when you look at their next five fixtures, all is not lost with points available to be grabbed:
• Brighton (h)
• Fulham (a)
• Forest (h)
• Everton (a)
• Aston Villa (h)
Now my view is that Nathan can keep Southampton up, this season, but is that a view you concur with?

I certainly think they can survive. They are perennial escapees from relegation.
