Luton bids thwarted

Luton Town reportedly twice made bids to sign loan duo Michael Spillane and Chris Martin on a permanent basis, but Norwich turned down both overtures.

Luton director Antony Brown said:

‘We held talks with Norwich. We actually tabled two separate offers for both of them and both of them were rejected.

‘I think Norwich had their own problems that had to be addressed. The new manager wants the players back so he can make his own decision.

‘We are always looking for good players and they are two good players. They are always on the radar, but whether it happens with the new management remains to be seen.’

Both players have shown themselves to be valuable members of the team and if the worst happens and we are relegated it would be a big bonus if these players were still with the club in a push to bounce straight back.

If the best happens and we survive, being able to keep as many of the squad together as possible would give the Hatters a good chance of challenging for a play-off place in League two, starting on a level with everyone else.

These attampts to bring in class players on permanent transfers show that the club has serious intentions for the future and the investment to see it through.
