Luton Beaten In Behind Closed Doors Friendly

In the normal scheme of things, we would have been preparing for our first home Premier League game of the season.

Unfortunately, due to ongoing work on the Bobbers Stand, the Hatters hierarchy took the sensible decision to get the game postponed.

The decision brought criticism from the football world, but it was sensible thing to do, can you imagine the furore if the game had been postponed closer to the date?

Earlier this week, I read that to fill the void, Burnley, our opponents in that first home game of the season, had set up a couple of friendly fixtures and I pondered why Luton Town had not done something similar.

Little did I know that Luton Town were doing exactly that.

Yesterday, the Hatters took on Arsenal in a friendly fixture at their London Colney training centre, in a behind closed doors fixture.

However, the game wasn’t one that followed the traditional format, with both sides agreeing to three 30-minute periods and allowing multiple substitutions thereby allowing more than the usual number of players to get, in some cases, some much need action.

As it turned out Arsenal won the encounter 3-0, but I’m sure it gave Rob Edwards and his coaching team the perfect opportunity to practise some new tactics and also help to bond those who joined our fine club this summer.
