Last night, England’s 3-0 victory, against Wales, ensured that it was England that went through to the knockout stages while Wales were left with only the thought of returning home.

In finishing bottom of the group, Wales magnificent journey ended in heart breaking fashion, having been beaten by England and Iran and drawing against the USA.

Ahead of the tournament starting, Luton supporters were proud to have two of their team participating, with Tom Lockyer selected for the Welsh squad and Ethan Horvath for the American squad.

Sadly, Tom’s participation is now over, and the centre back will return to the UK and, soon, join up with the Hatters squad as they prepare to return to Championship action, away to Middlesbrough on 10th December.

After being selected for the Welsh squad, it was disappointing that Tom spent all three of the group games as an unused substitute, a frustrating experience, but we’re sure the whole World Cup experience will have enriched his career.

Social media, reflecting on Tom’s imminent return, saw several comments reflecting on the fact he never saw any action:

I’m not sure that’s the case, Wales exited the competition because the big guns failed to contribute, and they never looked like a side that could score freely.

With Tom on his way home, here’s hoping we get to see Ethan in action at some stage of the tournament.
