Luton – A Competition I’d Rather We Did Not Feature In, But….

It seems to be something that crops up every year, our town being listed as one of the contenders for the worst place to live in the country.

And this year is no different.

The last time I clicked on the web site that runs the competition – vote-for-the-worst-place-to-live-in-england-2023 – Luton was in second place with a mere 4.2% of the votes cast, way behind the leading candidate, Peterborough, that appears to be romping away with the vote, accumulating 9.3% so far.

Now, being competitive, I’ve always wanted to win every competition we’re mentioned in, but do I want us to win this one?

There’s no doubting that our town, when it comes to development, has suffered at the hands of the Council.

Pubs and night clubs have been demolished, replaced by an array of blocks of flats, whilst the shopping centre, that was once supposed to be a shining star in our town centre, now looks aged and lacking the big stores that once dominated it. and made it an attraction.

Such dereliction cannot be changed quickly but there is hope for our town.

The proposed building of the Power Court development will improve one end of the town centre dramatically and could open up numerous avenues for improving our status when it comes to the aforementioned vote.

But, criticism of our town, has opened up the ideal opportunity for me to explore where the majority of the supporters who visit this site, come from:
