Former Luton Boss Axed By His New Club

It looked to be on the cards after a poor run of results but it still seems to be something akin to a knee jerk reaction.

Well, that appointment did not last long, did it?

Just three months after leaving Kenilworth Road, for a second time, unable to resist the lure of Premier League Southampton, the south-coast club have wielded the axe and sacked our former gaffer, Nathan Jones, as confirmed by the BBC

During his very brief spell with the Premier League outfit, Nathan Jones was in charge for just 14 matches of which he lost 9.

As far as the Premier League goes, Southampton are bottom and look to have an almighty task in retaining their Premier League status.

Nathan’s record, as far as Premier League fixtures go, is shocking with just 1 win in 9 games and 4 successive home defeats.

Where Nathan will end up next remains to be seen, his two spells away from Kenilworth Road, have both ended in failure.

Is it a coincidence that both his ventured away from the club he suited so well were with clubs that wore red and white?

But, the big question I’d like you to answer is:

Can you, somewhere down the line, see Nathan Jones back at Luton Town for a third spell or is it now entirely out of the question?

I’m offering 1/2 on nj is facing us next time the scum visit 😂😂😂

  • theGaffer says:

Although I wasn’t happy, I understood why NJ left but even if we were in trouble I wouldn’t want him back. It may sound harsh but to me it’s like your wife leaves you twice because the grass is greener only to find it isn’t then looks for another chance…

  • Bobby 123 says:

Good riddance I say, hopefully never to return so one who chase money at the fans expense left twice and failed twice not good on his CV even Richmond AFC wouldn’t offer him a job.
Rob Edward’s is better all round and is doing really, COYH let’s do the impossible and pass Southampton they get relegated hahaha.

  • Bob Jackson says:

Twice NJ has seen the grass as greener elsewhere and twice it has failed.
We never want him back again.

If reports from current Town squad claiming Rob Edwards to be a “breath of fresh air” then we have a manager leading us forward. A great pity to hear Jones’s Southampton post match rants as they were cringeworthy and rightly drew ridicule from Ian Wright.

A time for self reflection NJ.
Finally let’s spare a thought for James Bree now that his mentor has been dismissed. I would certainly welcome him back but never Nathan Jones

  • Bill says:

Do we still need an assistant kitman? Could be a way to get a foot in the door then work his way up.

  • Micky H says:

I feel sorry for NJ. Who can blame him for wanting to progress, is it not want we want the club to do, so why not the managers. Its what successful people and organisations do, but sometimes it does not work out. One or two of the comments on here are ridiculous. Ironic that our current manager who is doing so well suffered the same fate after a short run in charge down the road. Hopefully NJ and the coaching staff that went with him find success at another championship club, the premiership and a return to Kenilworth road in the future are not on the cards me thinks.

    • Jamis says:

Jones left us TWICE mid season. Its your comment that is ridiculous mate. On two points. watfud were 3rd when SRE was sacked.

  • Nick C says:

He won’t be back soon, but who knows in a few years ahead, Pleaty came back after a gap.
Can’t begrudge him going for a premiership job, it didn’t work out but Southampton have been in a mess for a long time.
The whole episode may work out in favour of the Hatters, as Rob Edwards has got off to a great start.
    It’s a funny old game!

  • Dave Hilton says:

Nathan Jones is not a bad Manager I think some of players would not buy into his style of football, player power gets you the sack, good luck for the future Nathan you never know one day back at the Hatters

  • Peter Scott says:

NJ is an reasonable coach but a poor Manager. The LTFC Board I think knew that the guy was not as good as he was when he first came back after Stoke – which is why they let Southampton talk to him – the performance of RE shows that there are better managers out there – managers that blame a bad performance on the officials or injuries. Everyone has their level of performance and NJ had his at Luton – I feel a little sorry for Alan S and Chris C as they have lost their jobs too. Can never see NJ coming back to LTFC and why would we want to employ an inferior version of RE?

  • Brian Heeler says:

He’s was very good for us but the premier was a step two far I feel. Regarding coming back to us I would not feel comfortable with him knowing that if a club came a knocking he would be gone.Plus we now have got rob Edwards on board who seems to be doing well and I think the fans all seem to like him. So sadly for Nathern Judas Jones league 1 or 2 probably would suit him.

  • Steve Bahrain says:

So many comments on NJ across all forums… Why are we so invested in him as a fanbase? Last time he made it well and truly clear he is not Luton… Dont care if he comes back here or anywhere else really… Just getting behind RE who has this squad playing football and played more youngsters during that time than the past 3 managers (NJ being 2 of those) have ever done.

  • Paul says:

We’d be stupid not to have Nathan Jones back, it’s football! Arguably one of the most successful Luton Managers ever, who’s team he built from the bottom up is still winning under RE. If you can’t get your head around the fact that football is a nomadic industry, you should watch solo sport, a bit of golf or tennis. In football the players and staff are professional sportsmen and women who by the very nature of their positions are driven by success and achievement. To say that a manager or player should stay with one club for their entire career is as ludicrous as saying an individual should never return to a club. Be grateful for the time and success Nathan Jones gave us, twice, and don’t cut your nose off to spite your face over a third term, he should be welcomed back with open arms. Good luck to him and his assistants, he should have been given time but, I’m sure he’ll agree, that’s football!

    • Alan says:

Why would you welcome him back….what he did for this club was outstanding, but he walked twice…..he will only use us a stepping stone again……I’ve said many times, players & managers come & go, supporters are for life…..he has had his time with us, good luck & goodbye…..

  • Bobby123 says:

Bye bye and good riddance. He has loyalty to his bank balance and no-one else.

  • Steve Bourke says:

    Twice bitten, once shy.

  • Colin Piper says:

He should not be allowed back after deciding to leave a club twice.

  • jimbo says:

he probably walked away with a nice little cash settlement. sit tight ,watford will need a new mansger soon. COYH.

  • jimbo says:

would sheehan be good for development team, seeing as he got his p45. COYH.

  • Chris winter says:

Let’s face it guys we got a 3.75 million transfer fee for him +750.000for bree.in return we got Rob Edwards that to me is a good deal I’m not crying over it.

  • Voice of Reason says:

Who wouldn’t leave their current employer for a promotion and more money? I know I would so I don’t blame NJ for leaving us. I’m guessing the Southampton players didn’t buy into him because they’d probably never heard of him, their collective egos and arrogance probably held them back from performing for someone they think of beneath them. Fair play for the Southampton board for giving him a chance, plenty of clubs would have looked abroad or appointed one of the ‘merry-go-round’ managers. This might be their next step this time though.

As for having him back, personally I wouldn’t, nothing against NJ, I just think history shows us managers that keep returning to a club never achieve much success, just look at the Posh. I sincerely hope he doesn’t go to that mob down the M1 though!

    • Jamis says:

Its leaving mid season TWICE that irks us mate. Then poaching Bree at the first opportunity. Fcuk Luton eh!!

      • Voice of Reason says:

He did but I think we probably did alright out of it financially, perhaps not as well as he did. He also dragged us out of the mire as well and we’re still in the Championship because of him.

Wasn’t happy about him pinching Bree to be fair, that definitely wasn’t cool!

  • Roby says:

Sadly Nathan as a Comitted Christian wasn’t the most loyal to us .!

He said he really believed in the project ?? I do believe his time with us had an air of Divine help as what he accomplished with us was pretty miraculous ,especially the great escape from relegation . Akin to our Houdini like survival in the old First division & miraculous last day escapes at Man City , Derby etc !!

You cant help but feel our little old club punching WAY above our weight for decades had an air of miraculous about it!

However his “Mo Jo “or as Christians say ” Divine anointing ” didn’t travell with him after he went to either Stoke or Southampton !!

He previously said he aspired to be a top top manager, as a Christian that was pretty worldly ! Obviously The divine help he previously received in ABUNDANCE at Luton , deserted him & he woke up to just being a mere mortal, but actually a pretty weak & mocked one to boot ! Dont think he left too many fans of his at either of the two clubs !

“I have learned to be abased & to abound , in whatsoever state I am I have learned to be content ” This could have been written just for him !!

The owners , board & supporters at Luton are the BEST we have EVER had !! He turned his back on that in search of his worldly ambitions !!

Twice he has paid the ultimate price !!

Doubt even a Championship club will take a punt on him now !! Probably have to climb the ladder again from League v1 or even league 2 !! How are the mighty fallen !!

Though possibly Sheffield Wensday or Ipswich or even Portsmouth might see him as bringing back tghe glory days ??

But feel he needs to spend time in the wilderness & a period of DEEP REFLECTION first !
