Edwards Calls It Right After Luton Defeat Against Burnley

Soccer Football - FA Cup - Fourth Round - Luton Town v Grimsby Town - Kenilworth Road, Luton, Britain - January 28, 2023 Luton Town manager Rob Edwards during the match Action Images/Matthew Childs

It’s the morning after the night before and the defeat, to Burnley, still rankles.

On another day we could have hung on for a point or if we’d have taken our chances all three points.

But we do still live to fight another day and, more importantly, the Hatters remain in 4th place, occupy one of the play-off places and will remain so, for another week, unless Watford can beat West Bromwich Albion 5-0 on Monday evening, something that isn’t going to happen.

Scouring the media for Rob Edwards thoughts on the game, it appears that the gaffer, when talking to the BBC was in a reflective mood and picking up on the positive aspects of his sides’ performance, remarking:

“I’m so proud of the lads putting on a performance like that after a tough night at Preston, a quick turnaround and then going up against comfortably the best team in the league.

“It was a penalty. We are human beings and there are going to be mistakes. There were very few out there as the lads gave everything and fought so hard.

“The lads were unbelievable with their energy and we had some quality as well.

“We limited a really top team to very few chances, and we could have done better in the one big moment that we had.”

As honest as ever, it’s, once again, hard to pick fault with any of the points made by Edwards.

The team did give everything and only the penalty, which Rob thought was a genuine call, knocked us out of our stride, Burnley showed their quality and why they are top of the table by a clear margin, it augers well for The Hatters, now let’s concentrate on Birmingham City, at St Andrews, next Saturday.
