A Fond Farewell From A Hatters Legend As His Departure Splits The Luton Support

It’ll seem strange following Luton Town without Alan Sheehan being part of the fold.

The news that our club captain had been released from his contract yesterday and was now a free agent, caught me by surprise.

Perhaps, in hindsight, it should have been expected, after all, Sheehan has, for most of the season, when it comes to first-team appearances, been conspicuous by his absence.

Therefore, with the books at Kenilworth Road having to be delicately balanced, releasing Sheehan, to cut the wage bill after bringing in Cameron Carter-Vickers and Eunan O’Kane in the last days of the transfer window, seems logical, despite what many may feel.

Naturally, Sheehan has only fond memories of his time with us, as his social media posting below shows:

And his departure continues to pull at the heart-strings of the Hatters support, as the following posts show:

But nothing lasts forever and a poll Vital Luton Town ran immediately after the announcement of his departure confirms the decision, more-or-less, split the support with 46% voting for the option that inferred the Hatters were right to let Sheehan go with 54% implying it was the wrong decision.

Unfortunately, these things happen in football, do they not?
