Luton Town – Looking Towards A Clash With Forest In Robin Hood Territory

The international break is all but over, and it won’t be that long before we’re cheering on the Hatters as we contemplate the 9th Premier League game of the season.

It delights me that, come Saturday, despite the weather, we’ll all be cheering the lads on, but it is disappointing to acknowledge that a third international break, of the 2023/2024 season, is not that too far down the road.

International football just bores me, and I have to admit that being of a certain age, I have a touch of the Kevin Keegan’s about it when it comes to the commentary and match analysis, just call me old school.

As we languish in the wrong half of the table, every game becomes that little bit more important as the pressure grows to add to our paltry points total.

Our opponents on Saturday, Nottingham Forest, are in their second season back in the top-flight and on achieving promotion, from the Championship, opted to spend big with circa £165 million being spent on a plethora of players.

It is a path some Luton supporters, but not me, would have liked to have sen the Hatters take, but to me we’ve done the sensible thing, using the majority of the Premier League bounty to secure our long-term future.

Of course, there is history between the two clubs, back in 1959 it was Nottingham Forest who beat Luton Town 2-1 in a Wembley FA Cup Final and also in 1989 in the League Cup Final when Luton Town were beaten 3-1.

Indeed, the last time the Hatters beat Nottingham Forest, in the top-flight, was when, at the City Ground, a goal from the legend that is Ricky Hill was enough to silence Brian Clough and the hordes of Forest supporters in a 1-0 win.

This Saturday promises to be a stiff test for the Hatters, and it will be interesting to see how the team plays after the international break.

Personally, I’d love Luton Town to win, but I’d also be happy with a draw, but what are your expectations from this fixture?
