After achieving promotion to League One last season, courtesy of finishing second in League Two, behind Accrington Stanley, today has been a day that the Hatters support have been eagerly looking forward to.

It is, of course, the day the fixtures for the 2018 / 2019 season are released.

With the Hatters looking to make an impact in League One, possibly looking to challenge for a second successive promotion, it’s essential that the Hatters get off to a good start.

Therefore, we thought it’d be interesting to see who Luton Town will be playing in the first five crucial games of the new season, games which read as thus:

• Portsmouth (a)
• Sunderland (h)
• Peterborough (a)
• Southend (h)
• Shrewsbury (h)

There’s no doubt that the Hatters have been given a tough start, a trip to Fratton Park is always a tough venture whilst Sunderland at home, although an attractive fixture, will also be tough with the side from the north-east desperate to bring to a halt a decline that has seen them drop two divisions in the last two campaigns.

Peterborough, at London Road, will be a big ask, although there is a respite in the fourth game when Southend arrive at Kenilworth Road, closely followed by a visit from Shrewsbury.

So, here’s where you get involved, we want you to predict how many points Luton Town will accumulate out of the first five games, bearing in mind there are a maximum of fifteen available.

Sat here in the editorial chair, I’ll optimistically opt for 8.

But do you feel we’ll accumulate more or less?

Please feel free to drop your predicted points tally in the comments section beneath this article.
