The Hatters Share The Spoils As The Chasing Pack Begin To Close The Gap

Nobody said the run-in, to promotion, was going to be easy.

The Hatters may be sitting pretty, on top of the League One table, but every team we play between now and the end of the season will be looking to claim our scalp.

It is essential that the Hatters keep their nerve and gather enough points to claim one of those two automatic promotion spots available.

Now is not the time for the faint-hearted especially with so much at stake.

Ahead of the clash with Gillingham, here at Vital Luton Town, we mentioned that points were far more important than performances at this stage of the season.

Against Gillingham, the Hatters put in the performance but could only take a share of the spoils against a Gillingham side who despite going a goal behind on two occasions, never gave up the fight.

The Hatters took the lead just before half-time when Danny Hylton was hand to take full advantage of a poor clearance from Callum Reilly.

The goal should have given the Hatters the perfect opportunity to brush Gillingham aside, but our visitors got back on level terms shortly after the break when Tom Eaves found some space to head home.

With the Hatters pushing forward, they regained the lead when Jack Stacey latched on to a pass from Andrew Shinnie to score.

But with the home support believing their side had done enough to take all three points, Luke O’Neill silenced the home support with an exquisite free-kick that beat James Shea all ends up.

The draw extends the Hatters superb unbeaten League run to 25 games but with both Sunderland and Portsmouth winning, there’ll be a few anxious looks at the pack, below us, starting to close in on us.
