Well, I guess that’s all for now folks!

The inevitable has happened, COVID-19 has well and truly scuppered our plans for the next few weeks.

Today, it was announced that all EPL fixtures will be postponed until 03-April, courtesy of the government’s intention to halt the spread of the aforementioned virus.

It was something we feared would happen, particularly when you look at the measures already imposed by other countries.

But the big question remains is where will it all end?

The government has already stated the next phase of its plan is to delay the spread of the highly contagious virus.

If that is the case and their plan is effective, then you could ask whether come 03-April, the scenario will be worse than it is now when it comes to the number of reported cases.

Now I say reported cases because the latest advice offered by the government suggests people don’t phone 111 and ask for advice but seek help on the internet and only contact the medical services if they still have the symptoms after five days, which begs me to ask how are they going to continue to monitor its growth or decline.

We really are taking a giant leap into the unknown!

And, picking up on another point, with the Euro 2020 Championships fast approaching are we entering a scenario where they could well be axed in order to finish the 2019 / 2020 domestic seasons around Europe or are we set to see the 2019 / 2020 season declared null and void?

I certainly don’t know, and I suspect those in charge don’t either!

Hi mad, as much as it would do us a massive favour, there is no way the fa/efl will null & void this season. They will look at it, realise the position we are in & make sure this season is played out…ltfc given a lifeline, no way will they allow that to happen…lol…

Hi all, I agree with Alan. An said this on the last post. Trust the fa/efl to chose the worst possible outcome. I agree with Gary sweet an games played behind closed doors.

Hi all, the virus is predicted to get much worse, maybe peaking in 14-16 weeks according to some ‘experts’. I am inclined to agree with Alan too that the most likely outcome would be that the season will be completed whether behind closed doors or otherwise. But think the timing of when football will resume probably will be dictated by when this virus is under much more control. I wouldn’t be surprised if providing this were the case by the summer the authorities didn’t postpone the euro’s till next summer to enable the domestic leagues to be completed. If you use China where this virus eminated from as a yardstick of time, the first case was diagnosed on Nov 17 but now it has bottomed out which is 4 months ago so if its the same here that means obviously resuming around mid July. Lots for everyone to ponder as MH says, perhaps new season may start late too but it would be the same for every other club too if this were the case.

Hi all, the fa/ efl should, rather than void the season, take how many games each team has left, then look at their form over the same amount leading up to this point, then award the corresponding points tally, from those games, therefore final standings will be on current form…ie; we have 9 games remaining, so award us the points tslly form the previous 9…just a thought…
