After a mammoth trek to a northern outpost of English football, it was a happy Hatter support that returned south last night.

Getting the season off to a win was a great way to resume life in the Football League. Whilst thoughts are there about achieving back-to-back promotions, in his post-match interview John Still was quick to ensure that we don`t, as a club, get ahead of ourselves, remarking,

“I was aware of how important it was for some of the players and how big it was for the football club.”

“We played like Luton play – some good football and we dig in when we had to dig in. The players handled the situation well and we had good ingredients in our play.”

“It`s important everyone realises that we are taking steps at the moment and there are more steps to make. We got into a winning habit last year and it is important we get into that winning habit again.”

“Carlisle played in a division higher last year and we were in a division lower, and yet in the first half we were outstanding. In the second half we worked our socks off. Our tactics were spot on.”

“In the last fifteen minutes I felt we could have scored again.”

Indeed we could have but its three points well gained and three points is the kind of start we would have all yearned for when we awoke yesterday morning.
