Stech’s Last Minute Inclusion In The Hatters Starting XI Earns The Appreciation Of The Luton Support

|

After the defeat away to Charlton, last time out, it was essential that the Hatters bounced back with a win away to Accrington Stanley, yesterday.

With the chasing pack all having won their games, on Friday, Luton knew that a win would open up the gap at the top of the table and put daylight between them and the trio of Barnsley, Sunderland and Portsmouth.

Also, with Hylton, Shinnie and McCormack missing, Mick Harford would have been hoping his side wouldn’t pick up any more injuries as the glory end of the season approaches.

Sadly, that didn’t prove to be the case with Luton’s first-choice keeper, James Shea, being taken ill overnight and unable to take his place between the sticks for this crucial fixture.

However, Shea’s misfortune allowed Marek Stech the opportunity to make his first League One appearance since August and, although the keeper didn’t have much to do in the form of making crucial saves, with Accrington Stanley failing to get a single shot on target, Stech looked very accomplished when called upon.

His performance resulted in several Hatters supporters leaving their thoughts on social media, all positive as the points below illustrate:

Shea will probably have recovered to take his place between the sticks when Luton Town welcome AFC Wimbledon, to Kenilworth Road, this Tuesday evening, but it’s comforting to know that, if required, the Hatters are able to call upon another top keeper in the shape of Stech.
