Please Don’t Let Our Beloved Luton Town Go The Same Way

The news that the Championship club, Wigan Athletic, have been placed into administration is a shocking example of how the current COVID-19 pandemic has made a financial impact on football.

Wigan, who memorably won the FA Cup back in 2013, could, the pundits are predicting, be the tip of the iceberg with anywhere between 10 – 15 clubs following in their footsteps.

Here at Vital Luton Town, we can only hope that the Hatters are not, behind the scenes, heading towards a similar fate.

But Wigan’s financial plight could benefit the Hatters.

After announcing that they had been placed into administration, the EFL confirmed that the north-west club would be deducted 12 points, however, when that 12 points are deducted isn’t clear.

Apparently, if Wigan finish outside the relegation places this season, then the 12 points could be deducted once this season finishes, which means the Latics could, if the 12 points are deducted, find themselves occupying a relegation spot.

But, if Wigan somehow finish in a relegation place this season, which is highly doubtful considering they are one of the form teams in the Championship at the moment, they will start life in League One, next season, with a 12 point deduction.

Does anyone else get the feeling that there is a fair few more twists and turns awaiting us in what has been an extraordinary season so far?
