Captain Kevin Nicholls hopes to be fit for the match tonight against Norwich. He was absent from training on Monday and isn’t the only player Newell has concerns over.

Markus Heikkinen and Steve Robinson are still suffering with knocks, although Rowan Vine and Kevin Foley have recovered.

‘Markus did take a knock and he didn’t train on Monday morning. We will see how he is in the morning and give him as long as possible, as we always do and if he is fit then he will start the game against Norwich.

‘Robbo is still feeling his heel so we will have to see how he is. The players have had a lot of games in a short space of time and they don’t need to be proving themselves in training because we know what they can do.

‘Nico has had a bit of problem and hasn’t trained and like everybody else we will leave him for as long as possible but I will expect him to be involved on Tuesday.’

‘There are no easy games in this league. You can make games easy for yourself if you work hard, which our lads have done all season, and you are on form. Norwich have started to pick up points after a rocky start and they still have quality in their side since they left the Premier League. I am not worried by the way we are playing at the moment.

‘I certainly expect Darren Huckerby and Dean Ashton to pose a threat. They have quality players in their side and when you look at Callum Davenport and Gary Doherty at the back, they have some very good players.

‘Nigel Worthington has had some very good results in the past few seasons and any manager that can take a team into the Premiership and almost keep them in that division shows that they have a lot of spirit.’
