Mike Newell is accused of aiming abusive and/or insulting language at fourth official Steve Cummings during the 5-1 defeat at Deepdale two weeks ago, when he was sent to the stands after complaining about having to wait over four minutes to make a substitution.

He denies the charge, although his after match comments about the role of fourth officials, and ‘recognising incompetence when he sees it’ may not assist his case.

Meanwhile, Marlon Beresford’s similar charge from the same game, but this time against match referee Drysdale after receiving the red card will be heard on March 7th. The red card was rescinded after the club appealed.
