A strong Luton reserve team came back from a 1-0 deficit at Southend, this afternoon to preserve their 100% record in the Pontins League.

Luton began brightly with Morgan and Bell running the show for Luton. However, it was Southend who opened the scoring, after 23 minutes, when Lee Bradbury was first to react, as Lawson’s header came back off the post, and he drove in from 12 yards.

Luton responded well, and Peter Holmes hit the top of the crossbar with a 25 yard effort.

On 34 minutes, Luton were awarded a free kick 25 yards out, and Dean Morgan fired in a curling shot, which beat keeper Welsh all ends up, to equalise.

He almost gave Luton the lead a few minutes later when a quick turn made the opening and his shot was well saved by Welsh.

Just after half time, David Bell showed that he has a powerful shot on him, too, as he fired over from over 20 yards, and on 52 minutes Ryan Charles (who he?) hit the post from a loose ball after another fine save from Welsh from a Morgan shot.

Southend had their chances too, and Cole hit the side netting before Legister shot over the bar when well placed.

Davis and Holmes lasted 75 and 80 minutes respectively and are believed to have come through the match without any problems.

Substitute Mountford shot just wide in the latter stages, and, in the last minute, David Deeney got forward only to be felled in the box by Lewis Hunt.

Morgan stepped up to thrash the ball into the net, from the penalty spot, for a well-earned victory.
