Middlesbrough Targeting Luton Midfielder

Transfer speculation, on the internet, continues to infer that the midfield contingent of the Hatters squad is set to be further devastated.

Since the season concluded, we have already lost Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who returned to Leicester City after his loan spell ended.

Also no longer with us is George Moncur who, as we reported earlier today – midfielder-moves-north – has signed a contract with Hull City and we are still non the wise as to whether our Welsh international, Joe Morrell, will remain at Kenilworth Road – support-divided-on-future-of-midfielder,

But the exodus could get worse with Football Insider 24/7, reporting that Middlesbrough are keen to acquire the services of 27-year-old Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu.

Mpanzu is another of the Hatters squad who has a contract that ends at the end of this month and has not put pen-to-paper on a new deal at Kenilworth Road.

Pelly, to me, has been part of the furniture at Kenilworth Road for an age now, and has been part of our meteoric rise from non-league football back to the Championship.

In eight seasons with Luton ha has made 295 appearances and, to me, is a valued member of the squad.

If losing Moncur was a bitter pill to swallow then losing Pelly, although he has his detractors among our readership, would be a major blow.

Hopefully, the Luton hierarchy can persuade Pelly that his future lies with us and not up in the north-east.

Morning mh, difficult one this. He is obviously one of njs favourite players and pretty much garenteed a place in the team. So he may see it as a certainty to stay. But then again he may feel that he needs a new challenge having been here so long. I wouldn’t like to call this one.

  • Danny says:

i can’t remember a player as long standing as pelly having such divided opinions about them. I’m also hopeful he will stay, but if he decides he wants a fresh challenge or is offered more money elsewhere then that’s his prerogative to move on, he owes the club nothing and has been pivotal to our rise up the leagues.

agree with dan that ruddock needs a fresh challenge.we all know his history, just like danny hylton, not much said about him.,congrats to mc.jannett, good young prospect. COYH.

I wouldn’t say he was rubbish, more like passed his sell by date, I don’t think he has ambition with Luton anymore, as show in many of his performances this season.
We had better players that didn’t get the chance, so I would be happy to see him make way.

Hi Danny an mh, As I said yesterday in a post he is being offered a 3yr deal away from Luton. An maybe that could sway any deal we’ve offered.

    • Danny says:

yes, that’s quite possible Chris & you couldn’t blame him for taking the longer deal probably on more money too

Hi all, love him or hate him pelly will get a big hole to fill…I know some pick his faults, but he doesn’t get fouled so many times by being a bad player. Would love to see the stats for the amount of free kicks he won us last season….but hey ho, some will be happy, as they were with pearson and collo going. I’ve said before we are gonna have to work hard to replace some of these big players going….or it could be a case of deja vu

  • Andrew Ellis says:

Well I will be sorry to see him go but you can’t blame him . I always felt he has not rised to how go he could be , I felt he was going to be a top player but still feel he has not reached that with Luton so maybe he needs that extra push .

  • jimbo says:

always said he needs a fresh start.he is at an age were he could really push forward.away from luton.COYH.

  • Peter Scott says:

Yep he is like Marmite – NJ said before that his agent was talking him up – I cant think of any other Championship Side where he would get an automatic place week in week out like he does at LTFC-I think he needs to move on now while he still has a few years left in him – he is definitely not Premiership Material

  • Alan says:

Daft statement….none of our players are prem quality if they were they wouldn’t be here….how stupid
