When Luton Town travelled the short distance to play Welling, one of the opposition ranks caught my eye.

That day Ross Lafayette caused the Luton defence all sort of problems and it appears that the 28 year-old forward was on John Still`s radar.

During the week, Lafayette signed for the Hatters, putting his name to a two year deal.

Discussing his latest acquisition Still had this to say to the local media,

“Ross is a player we have had on our radar for a number of years, he`s always someone we`ve had in mind.”

“He was one we thought about signing had we not captured Paul Benson.”

“We signed Paul so we left it there, but subsequently he went on and enjoyed a terrific season with Welling.”

“He showed that he could make the step-up from the Conference South to the Conference Premier.”

“Ross has a lot of ingredients which make him an ideal signing. He`s quick, he`s strong and he knows how to score goals.”

“The one thing that stood out for me during the talks was the player`s hunger and desire to do well for himself.”

On the evidence Ross provided in his display against us, I`ve no doubt he can step up another level and prove to be a valuable asset to our side as we seek to resume a Football League career that was so rudely interrupted.
