The defeat, inflicted by Manchester United on Tuesday evening, ended the Hatters 100% start to the season.

It was disappointing but perhaps, if we were honest, expected.

But, this Saturday, Luton Town FC have the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways and put a smile on the faces of their supporters.

For the first time in an age, the Hatters are set to take on Watford in a competitive fixture when the two sides clash in a Championship fixture, at Vicarage Road.

The Hertfordshire Police have decided that the kick-off, although the game will be played behind-closed-doors, will be at 12:30.

They have also issued warnings that any groups of Luton supporters headed towards the ground or the town centre or ground will be intercepted and dealt with accordingly, especially if they are defying the current COVID-19 pandemic restrictions.

To get you in the mood for the game, we have delved into the YouTube archives and found the highlights from a game, in the Worthington Cup, from September 2002.

I never tire of watching that Spring goal, what a day that turned out to be 🙂
I see England’s worst ever manager turnip taylor has now been boarded up for the occasion, i’d be embarrassed if our club ever did something like just because were playing w*****d. Roll on Saturday and here’s to increasing our superior head to head record against the trophyless wonders down the road – cheers lads !

Hi Danny, yeah watching that back brought shivers down my spine. Wish Nicholls was playing sat no way would these current players think this was just another game apart from mick I don’t think they have any idea of the magnitude of this game. I have attended Glasgow manc Liverpool Portsmouth derby’s. Yet none of them carry the hatred of luton for Watford an I go back to the 60s an the battle of the stevenage mecca riot an the cali battles. Oh for kev to be playing an the rest of that great team.

  • Alan says:

Hi chris, as I said previously, mick will make sure the current players no what this fixture means, don’t worry on that score…just wish we could be there the players would soon no for def then…

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, as I said mick is there yes. But oh how I wish kev Nicholls was playing an springy the fireworks would be monumental 😁😁😁

  • Alan says:

Hi chris, the one problem with springy is he played for them too….lol…

  • Alan says:

Hi all, the spring goal is truly brilliant, but the second is just as good in other ways big stevie leaving dyche for dead…..

  • Chris winter says:

Hi all, that was gutting very disappointing

  • Alan says:

Very…not enough chances created I’m afraid…collo hit the bar was gutting….needed the crowd today I think, it was very tame….

    • Chris winter says:

Hi Alan, yes very tame little passion an worryingly little cutting edge.. Maybe need a new forward to gee up the forwards

  • Alistair says:

Yes agree with you both, Collins had an off day with two opportunities, I hear some questioning whether Hilts should have been offered another contract as he is unproven at this level yet I’m not sure because he has had hardly any game time since returning from injury. Feel perhaps he needs more time to prove himself? Also their team cost a hell of a lot more than Luton’s. Let’s hope we can give championship whipping boys Wycombe a thrashing next Saturday. At least we are conceding far less now than when GJ (aka dickhead) so at least we have more chance of collecting points now by staying in contention deep into games like for instance today trailing by the single goal but now we have to carry the pain till the reverse fixture at the Kenny COYH

  • Chris winter says:

Hi Alistair, we know Jones loyalty to players who serve him well. An I suspect he wants to get hilts agoal in the championship as a reward for his services I don’t have a problem with this. But I still feel a different type of forward is needed by the team

  • Alan says:

Hi all, maybe start with hilts and collo, I no it is sacrificing someone but, both of them when they have played go looking for the ball, if you play both, one can go looking, the other stays up the middle….we are getting crosses in but there is very rarely anyone in the box…. collo didn’t really have an off day…his shot against the bar was purely that he got to much on it. A slight touch and it’s a goal…yeah he should have passed later when he shot over, but how many forwards pass in that situation….there goal was bloody luck too by the way….but to be honest to much was made of this game because without fans, really it was just another game I’m afraid…also many on here said they expected 3pts from 1st 3 games…I said 9…lol…but let’s look forward to Saturday and move on….just a final thought slug is a different keeper now, but wish he would try and get his hands to the ball rather than going feet 1st quite so often…just an opinion…coyh…

  • Alistair says:

Hi all, yes I think Collo & Hilts should be paired up together again, it has worked in the past & no reason why it can’t bear fruit again. Also think a different type of forward would be a good idea if one became available. Obviously we have to remember that town are working on a shoe string budget so competing with the likes of the bigger clubs in the championship won’t be easy for quality players. I do also agree with NJ that it was a lack lustre display. None of this team would have played in a derby of this magnitude before but if the fans had been there they would have realised soon enough how much it means to the hatters faithful. Let’s hope the return fixture breeds a different outcome COYH
