During the last days of May, here at Vital Luton Town, we ran an article about a local boy, James Justin.
Our article, congratulated the local lad, who learned his trade with the Hatters – former-luton-player-hits-the-big-time – for earning the first full international call-up of his career.
With the World Cup, in Qatar, not that far away, we were hoping that Justin would get the chance to show what he could do and push his claims for a place in the World Cup squad.
Well, last night, Justin was given the opportunity to do exactly that when the England boss, Gareth Southgate, chose Justin in his starting XI for the Nations League fixture, in Hungary.
Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be a fairy tale start, when it comes to international football, for Justin.
The attacking defender had to be withdrawn at half-time after picking up a knock.
His disappointment would have been further heightened when a solitary goal, from the penalty spot, was enough to give Hungary a win and send England to a rare defeat.
England’s performance, in general, was lacklustre, but during his time on the pitch, Justin was one of the few shining lights.
I’m sure yesterdays’ game will be the first of many for this emerging local lad who attended the same local high school as my daughter.
Congratulations James Justin from all at Vital Luton Town.
