After forcing his way into Nathan Jones starting XI, Tom Lockyer’s evening ended in major disappointment away to Brentford.
Lockyer, signed from Charlton Athletic in the summer, received a straight red card, deep into stoppage time, for an off-the-ball incident with the Brentford striker, Ivan Toney.
It looked to be a harsh decision with Lockyer having every right to feel hard done by.
Looking at the incident, it appeared Toney had caught Lockyer with an elbow during an aerial challenge, moments later Toney was on the ground and the referee obviously thought, wrongly, Lockyer had sought retribution.
It was an incident that baffled those watching, with the following social media post summing things up perfectly:
Anyone know wtf happened at the end

Thankfully, the Hatters are set to appeal against the red card and try and prevent Lockyer serving a three-game ban, with Nathan Jones quoted as having remarked, by Luton Today reaffirming:
“I’ve seen it, I can tell you it’s not a red card, it’s categorically not a red card.”
Let us hope the authorities are manful enough to right this wrong.
