Last night, up at Elland Road, would have been a humbling experience for all those who still believed the Hatters could, this season, mount a promotion challenge.
Soundly beaten, 3-0, Luton Town were given a lesson when it came to playing this wonderful game of ours.
Often chasing the ball, for long periods of play, the game showed just how quickly our standards have fallen, especially when you think how we played, punching above our weight, in the Premier League last season.
Okay, I’ll accept that Leeds United are, quite probably, the best team I have seen in the EFL Championship this season and look certain to be promoted, come May, but we looked as if we are heading for a relegation battle rather than a promotion fight.
Sadly, the realisation that last night would be a lost cause was recognised, before the kick-off, with a mere 22% of those that voted being of the opinion that we could go to Yorkshire and return with all three points.
Right from the off, it wasa backs to the wall job with our hosts pressing us back and looking to take the lead, they didn’t have to wait long with Byram scoring after just 10 minutes.
But, the Hatters could have got back in the game, with Burke, pushing forward, failing to direct a header on target and with Moses, earlier, seeing a delightful chip cleared off the line.
Unfortunately, any hopes the Hatters had of a half-time pep talk changing the course of the game were ended when Piroe netted in first-half stoppage time.
The second half provided more of the same and the only surprise was that Leeds United were restricted to adding just one more goal with James netting, thereby lifting the Yorkshire side to the summit of the EFL Championship, while Luton Town occupy 16th place, just a couple of points off the relegation places.
Next up or the Hatters is a trip to Carrow Road, this weekend, to take on a Norwich City side that scored six against Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday evening, another daunting away trip!

Leeds United v Luton Town – Team Sheets Revealed
what a great team leeds have. i think surviving in the championship is the priority for us now. i still maintain we have good players, more than good enough to stay in this league. back to basics, and get some points. has mengi truly re-engaged or has he got the hump still , not being transfered. just seems like a bad energy. lets hope for a miracle at norwich.COYH.
