Our quest, after being relegated last season, is surely to make an immediate return to the Premier League.
Aided by the ‘parachute’ payments, the Hatters have, under the leadership of Rob Edwards, a good chance of making an immediate return.
However, there is no denying that it will be a tough task, with the other two relegated clubs, Sheffield United and Burnley, along with a gaggle of other clubs, most notably Leeds United, also viewing a return to the top-flight of English football come May 2025.
Naturally, much will depend on our dealings in the summer transfer window, we’ve already accepted that Ross Barkley will be leaving and it remains to be seen who else will be looking to continue with a Premier League career. I’m hoping that loyalty will be, over the coming weeks, the buzz word.
But, altough our first season in the Premier League ended in relegation, there’s no doubting that we made a good impression with our escapades whereby we pushed the big-boys all the way and only really fell by the wayside during the latter stages of the season when injuries began to influence our performances.
Therefore it was pleasing to see, and as reported by Football League World, that one of my favourite TV pundits, Ally McCoist would love to see the Hatters make an immediate return, with the Scotsman quoted, by our referenced source, as remarking about the forthcoming race for promotion:
“I’d firstly go with Leeds. I think they’ll kick on from the disappointment of the playoff final defeat.”
“I don’t see Sheffield United coming back up, but I would love to see Luton Town get promoted again.”
“I know they got relegated, but out of the clubs that went down last season, I thought they were the ones that gave it a real go.”
“Burnley and Sheffield United never really got going, but every time teams would face Luton, they’d know they were in a game. If they can keep that spirit and that siege mentality that they’ve got at home, I think they can go up as well. I’d love to see them do it – I know they went down last year, but I enjoyed the level of performances.”
Nicely put Ally, let’s hope that your wish becomes reality.
