It is the morning after the night before and it is still hard to comprehend just what we witnessed yesterday afternoon.
After a splendid run of form and in a game we were expected to win, the Hatters came unstuck, at home, against the side who were propping up the Premier League, Sheffield United.
I’m not sure if being nominated as one of the candidates for the January Manager of the Month put some kind of curse on the gaffer or whether complacency crept into our game.
After the final whistle, the gaffer faced the media and had this to say, as reported by the BBC;
“A tough day, disappointing to lose the game of course. They defended the box very well, we made a couple of errors and got punished. We were not our usual self in terms of being snappy and creating chances.”
Indeed we didn’t, we looked lacklustre as the Blades started the game better and, more or less, won the game in the first forty-five minutes.
Continuing, Rob added:
“At the end, it came down to two mistakes. There were a couple of moments in the game where we huffed and puffed. The players gave everything. Once Sheffield United were very low and defending that lead, they were difficult to break down.”
They were, Chris Wilders’ side were content to defend in numbers as all sides do after having established a lead and rely on the counter-attack to add to their lead.
It was definitely a disappointing result but as Rob concluded with:
“This is the best league in the world and the toughest league in the world. Today we’ve had a bad day, but we’ve had some good days.
“The players will pick themselves up ready to attack the week.”
Indeed they will as we welcome Manchester United, to Kenilworth Road, for the next Premier League fixture, let’s hope we perform better!
