For those endeared with international football, England face two intriguing fixtures in the next week or so.
First up is a clash with Brazil followed by a game against Belguim, both games should give an indication of how England will do in the forthcoming Euro 2024 Championships.
Ahead of these two games, there were high hopes that our own Ross Barkley would be included in the squad.
But, sadly, despite some illuminating performances, Gareth Southgate chose to ignore a player who many Luton Town supporters are declaring as the best midfielder to ever grace the Kenilworth Road turf.
Unfortunately, the omission of Ross would seem to be a clear indication that any chance of Ross resuming his international career, in time for the forthcoming tournament, are over.
A further indication that Southgate is not interested in utilising Ross came, in midweek, when the England boss decided to add the young Manchester United player, Kobbie Mainoo, to the squad.
Which, reflecting on all that has gone on, would suggest to me that as well as having his favourites, and you all know who I mean, Southgate, like many before us, has a tendency to favour players from the big clubs!
But, am I alone in having these thoughts or is it something you agree with?
