Luton Town – Stranger Things Have Happened In This Wonderful Game Of Ours

One advantage of the cold, dark nights starting to draw in is that it gives you a great excuse to pop into a warm pub.

Not that our motley crew ever needs much of an excuse to venture into the local!

But, whenever we’re in the pub, or boozer, whichever terminology you prefer, it’s always astounding when it comes to the topics discussed and last night was no exception.

Though, perhaps, it was, considering all the column inches that have been written about it, no surprise that the future of Rob Edwards was put under the conversational spotlight.

What did surprise though was how quickly the quartet of us drinkers got around to the subject of Nathan Jones.

Right out of the blue somebody, and it wasn’t me, asked whether our current predicament might see the return of the Welshman for a third spell in the Kenilworth Road hot seat.

Jones is currently doing a decent job at Charlton Atheltic, where, with an influx of former Hatters’ talent the South London club sit in a mid-table position in the League One table.

After the initial burst of laughter had died down, the remark originator backed up his point by making, among others, the following points:

1 – Nathan has a soft spot for the club and, more than once, has bought into the project.

and

2 – Perhaps his wandering days and addiction to clubs that play in red and white stripes, Stoke City and Southampton, has eased.

Now I, for the life of me, can’t see it happening, but what are your views on what, I admit, is a totally off-the-wall suggestion?

Please feel free to have your say in the comment facility beneath this article.

Morning MH, nothing would surprise me if nj returns my biggest worry is that the only difference between either is that Jones seems to get players as a team constantly playing for him here but otherwise it would be the same old players constantly playing as it is now and very little change in our style of play. If change of management is going to happen then I want a complete fresh outlook on tactics and style.

  • Phil says:

Think it would be a mistake if NJ came back. Was pretty clear he’d taken us about as far as he could before he left for Southampton. If he’d stayed, I doubt we’d have had got promoted and had the season in the prem. If Rob does go, we need someone with a bit more tactical nous than NJ

love him or hate him ,he built the core of our team that RE inherited. the winning mentality i think started with john still, then jones took over , bit of magic from mick harford, and here we are. certain players need to have a long hard look at there performances, get there head in gear, and show the supporters what you can realy do. the long balls are not working. we have clever midfielders, but they are to often bypassed with the long ball. i am sure RE is as annoyed as all of us about performances, its the players that have to step up. Odd voting options when a simple YAY or NAY would have sufficed.

  • BigAl says:

    Agree with everything Phil said.

  • Brian Hodgson says:

No chance his sole achievement is promotion from league 2 finishing 2nd to Accrington Stanley

Had interesting news today about what went on pre season between Taylor and Edwards and he will be sold in January and Edwards wants him out !!!! If it hadn’t been for the crisis he would have gone preseason.Do not expect to see much of him before then.

    • Mad Hatter says:

      We’ll regret selling him!

      • Chris winter says:

I agree mh, just because of a set to with a favourite player of the manager and Edwards had to separate them doesn’t justify it. Playground fights happen all the time on training grounds all over the country every season nothing is new so to me it’s a harsh and wrong decision by the manager.

  • Ray says:

So what happened regarding RE’s statement at his post match interview when he said he wanted what was best for the club? From all I’ve read most supporters and several pundits think Taylor is an asset. If so they should sit down and come to a grown up agreement.

    That’s what most adults do.

    • Chris winter says:

Quiet right ray. Although we don’t know the full story do we . But you are right Edwards should show he’s the bigger man and have sorted it out. But it seems he’s thrown his rattle out of the pram.
