Luton Town – Some Improvement Shown But Still Need To Do Better

A win is a win but did the victory yesterday fill you with hope that this season can be turned around?

For me, it didn’t!

It was a drab game with very few shots on target, two for each side, and if Thomas Kaminsky hadn’t of pulled off a couple of good saves, it could well have been the same old story.

Hull City were an industrious side but arrived in our neck of the woods not having won any of their last six games and, in all brutality, were there for the taking.

But the Hatters made hard work of it and the possession stats show that Hull had the lions share of possession.

To me it was a game where the results was, quite probably, more important than the performance, but we can’t paper over the cracks can we?

Indeed, the three points lifted the Hatters up the table to sixteenth place but still a mere three points off of a relegation place and a cool eight points off of a play-off place.

The season is still in its infancy, there’s a long way to go but the direction in which we are heading will be highlighted in our next two games, both away from home.

On Wednesday we travel to Yorkshire to take on a Leeds United side who are looking to claim an automatic promotion place, such is their fine form this season.

Next weekend, it is a trip to Norfolk to take on Norwich City who currently sit in thirteenth place in the table, a couple of points ahead of us.

Both are, on paper, tough games and my point of view is that we’ll have to play a lot better than we did yesterday if we are to get anything from either game.

Is that an opinion you concur with, or would you beg to differ?

To be frank mh, I fear a drubbing in both games I just don’t see any real reason for optimism nothing has changed since the break and we are so fragile sorry but to me the players have lost confidence in the tactics and now playing for personal pride not as a team that is down to one man.

Totally agree with what has been said we look like a sinking ship can see Leeds thumping us out of sight players look like they don’t want to play for Edwards i still think he should go or we will be playing league one football next season

Holmes, McGuiness, Mengi and Burke can all hold their heads high after Saturday. They looked more like the Lutn of two years ago that tackled and blocked anything that moved.

As I have said to anyone prepared to listen, we are far too easy to play through and this is the root of our problems. One ball (and it doesn’t even have to be a particularly good one) and we look like conceding.

I really believe it is a midfield problem that we have and this has to be where the transfer effort is applied in January.

Well stu lamine the Swedish guy is joining us shortly so that’s one in already but doesn’t the fact that our forwards aren’t scoring from open play just as worrying.i can’t remember them scoring from outside the box .And only krauss and moses will try to from there

on a more positive note, i love the blood and guts type of play from tom holmes. a few more players could do with his attitude. with doughty and bell not playing, them two make a massive difference to this team. hashioka is looking better with every game, i think he will get even better. we need to make more use of chong and krauss. they both can make defence splitting passes, but the long ball seems to be in favour. these long balls especially to morris, seem to frustrate him, he gets annoyed, and always ends up on his arse, pleading for a foul. lastly, that ref on saturday should be given his P45. Pretty much agree with all of the negative comments following Saturdays game . In particular our current midfield is extremely lightweight and lacks the necessary physicality for a successful Championship campaign. Similarly in attack we are far too predictable and whilst our central defenders are undoubtedly good individually as a unit they look vulnerable at times particular to early crosses from wide positions.
Basically problems all over the park apart from Kaminsky who basically won us the game against Hull .
The transfer window looks crucial if we are to avoid playing in League one next season .
